New Neighbors

Our neighbors have a Killdeer nesting in their front flower bed.  She is right next to the sidewalk, 5 feet from the porch.  She picked a very busy, high traffic area.

 

 

I watered flowers for our neighbor over the weekend and had forgotten about their new neighbor.  I was reminded quickly as I heard a loud piercing chirpping - like an alarm.  I walked within 2 feet of her nest and she got crazy upset.  She did the "broken wing dance", to distract me and to get me away from her nest. 

I kept assuring her everything was okay, but she didn't listen. 

She has every right to be crazy upset.  See her camoflauged eggs just to the right of the light?  She has been sitting on these 3 eggs for well over a week now, even in the pouring rain.  Such a dedicated mother. 

We tend to have a Killdeer nest in the area every year, but I have yet to see the chicks. 

Wouldn't that be awesome!?!

Extra Help

I started knitting a prayer shawl last night and for some reason I had a LOT of help.  They go through these spells were they HAVE to be held and cuddled and shown tons of attention.  Of course it is on their terms only.  If I were having one of those needy clingly days and wanted them to sit with me they would hiss and bite and claw.  Ya gotta love em.

This shawl for a young lady who is going away to boarding school in a couple of months. She isn't going far from home, but she will be AWAY from home.  She is only 15 so the transition may be hard.   We thought it might be nice for her to take some prayers and a little extra love with her. 

Say a little extra prayer for someone you love tonight.  Hope your week is going well.

Over the Weekend I.....

fussed at Scruffy for sleeping in the front flower bed,

watched hummingbirds feed,

went to my first Quinceañera for one of Little Girl's best friends (loved it!),

fussed at Indie for being on the table,

watched it rain and then rain some more,

finished a prayer shawl, finished two dish clothes, and did very little housework.

It was a great weekend!

Let me know what your plans are and what date you pick.  I would love to see pictures and share stories on this blog.  It can be as simple as sitting in the park knitting during your lunch break.  You could knit while commuting on public transportation (I do this on a regular basis).  Get a couple of your knitting buddies together enjoy some time at a restaurant.  You could organize a group and do it up big.   Heck - knit when you go out clubbing!  Okay I just put that one in there to see if you were paying attention.   We all know we can knit just about anywhere.  Wouldn't be fun to be with others and share your love for the knitting. 

Seriously, let's do this thing!  Let me know if you want to.  I am - even if I have to celebrate right by myself.

Hummers

Take a look at that.  So what do you think?  Hubby and I have been playing with this idea of a recycled wine bottle hummingbird feeder for a while and I think we got it.  We've been feeding hummers for a couple of weeks from our creations.  This is a recycled wine bottle wired with flowers cut from drink cans added for some color to attract the birds.  The whole project is made from recycled materials except  for the feeding tube.

It took me a little while to get these shots.  I waited patiently on the other side of the back steps, for what seemed forever, hiding from the birds.  I was beginning to wonder if I had hid myself well enough but then a hummer approached.  Just as he was swooping in to take a drink I heard a loud MEOW!  

Scruffy blew my cover!!  I tried to shoo her away but the more I tried the more determined she was to stick her big head through the railing for me to pet.  The more determined she became the more she meowed.  I finally had to give in and make her go inside.  She is still pouting but I'm sure she'll be over it by morning.

Sorry I've been away from blog world for several days.  I've had a lot going on lately and  lots of running around to do.  To be honest, there's been some lazy thrown into the mix too.
